Bell-Boeing MV-22B Osprey crash near Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina, United States

minor2006-03-27
Summary

During post maintenance ground checks after an engine change the aircraft lifted off without command, fell back and came down hard at Marine Corps Air Station New River, breaking off the starboard wing and badly damaging the right engine. The cabin was unoccupied and nobody was hurt. The uncommanded power has been attributed to a miswired cannon plug to the engine control unit. The airframe was struck off and the hulk was later rebuilt as a maintenance trainer.
