Sport Copter Vortex crash near Lakeport, CA, United States

A Sport Copter Vortex experimental gyroplane crashed into a marshy area near the shoreline of Clear Lake, approximately one mile from Lampson Field Airport in Lakeport, California. Two witnesses observed the gyroplane in level flight before it tumbled tail over nose three times and disappeared behind a treeline. The 68-year-old pilot, William Jensen, was pronounced dead at the scene. The gyroplane was totally destroyed.
