Sud-Aviation SA 330 Puma crash near Rosporden, France

A French military firefighting helicopter (Morane 29 water bomber) crashed into Rosporden Lake in Brittany, north-western France, while attempting to collect water for wildfire operations shortly after 7pm. The helicopter approached the water too quickly, causing the tail rotor to dip into the lake. The aircraft spun out of control and crashed into the water. Both crew members escaped and swam to shore. The pilot and an officer were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A bystander was also taken to hospital. The helicopter had earlier completed 27 water drops responding to a fire near Beuzec-Cap-Sizun. Mayor Michel Loussouarn said authorities took measures to contain the risk of fuel pollution in the lake.
