The Alouette II was being repositioned from a farm near Danielskuil to a game farm near Olifantshoek for a game capture operation involving aerial darting. After takeoff it flew over flat ground and headed west towards higher terrain, struck vegetation on a mountainside and careered down a ravine, coming to rest on its right side.
