Summary
The Moldovan-registered Mi-17, based at Mazar-i-Sharif, was flying a transport mission with three crew and eighteen Afghan personnel when the crew transmitted a mayday reporting the helicopter had been hit. An emergency landing was carried out with the aircraft on fire. Three people were killed and the remainder reported captured by militants. The helicopter was owned by Valan International Cargo Charter and flown under contract to Aircraft Charter Solutions for the prime contractor to the US Government, providing airlift support to Afghan security forces.
