Robinson R44 Astro crash near Rasivaara, Juuka, North Karelia, Finland

The Robinson R44 Astro was sawing branches near a power line at Rasivaara in Juuka when engine power was lost and the helicopter fell among the trees. The pilot suffered minor wounds, walked away and was taken to hospital for treatment. The helicopter was destroyed. The Safety Investigation Authority concluded that the pilot had focused too much on the sawing conditions along the next section of power line and on the saw slung beneath the helicopter, which reduced his situational awareness, led him to misjudge the prevailing flight conditions and caused him to use a control technique unsuited to the situation.
