fatal2023-01-024 fatalities
Summary

Two Eurocopter EC130 B4 helicopters operated by Sea World Helicopters collided mid-air at about 130 feet above the Sea World theme park helipad on the Gold Coast. VH-XKQ was departing while VH-XH9 was arriving. The collision severed VH-XKQ's main rotor blades and gearbox, causing it to crash onto a sandbar. Four people were killed including pilot Ashley Jenkinson, and three were critically injured. The ATSB investigation found a missed radio call and a ground crew's outdated clearance contributed to the collision.
