Summary
A Panamanian National Police Bell UH-1N (SAN-100) crashed into a three-story building in the Calidonia commercial district of Panama City. The helicopter was carrying six Chilean federal police officers including Chile police chief Gen. Jose Bernales, and six Panamanian officers returning from a regional security forum in Colon. A rotor blade struck the building, causing the helicopter to fall in a ball of fire. 11 of 12 on board were killed; only co-pilot Hernaldo Carrasco survived. The crash started a fire in the building below.
