Bell 407 crash near near Myakka City, Florida, United States

fatal2026-10-151 fatality
Summary

The helicopter was spraying for mosquito control west of Myakka City and was returning to reload and refuel after the first mission of the evening when it came down in woodland behind houses near the 10000 block of 289th Street East, by Dakin Dairy Farms. A fire followed. The pilot, Isaac Moore, 63, was the only person on board and was pronounced dead at the scene after bystanders pulled him from the wreckage. He had flown for the Columbus Division of Police in Ohio for more than 32 years before retiring. A second Manatee County Mosquito Control helicopter was spraying nearby and landed safely. Local reporting and the sheriff's office describe the helicopter striking a private radio tower, and there is damage to a tower in the area, but the National Transportation Safety Board has not confirmed a tower strike and has determined no cause. Investigators are examining human, mechanical and environmental factors, including the pilot's medical and training records, the controls, transmission and rotor system, weather and lighting, surveillance and drone footage, and radar data. The cause is left open here for that reason.
