Eurocopter AS 350B+ Ecureuil crash near Chisec, Alta Verapaz, Guatemala

The Ecureuil was flying from the Hotel Maya Internacional to La Aurora International Airport when it impacted terrain near Chisec. The sole occupant was killed and the helicopter destroyed. The investigation concluded the pilot lost situational awareness, failing to recognise the helicopter's position and attitude relative to the terrain, which limited his ability to respond and resulted in direct impact with the ground. The report also found he had disregarded medical advice relating to his own diagnoses and that possible consumption of alcohol and self-prescribed medication may have contributed to a medical event or loss of consciousness in flight.
