fatal2009-08-086 fatalities
Summary
A Liberty Helicopters Eurocopter AS350BA sightseeing helicopter and a private Piper PA-32R collided mid-air over the Hudson River near Hoboken, New Jersey. All six on the helicopter were killed: the pilot and five Italian tourists from Bologna. Three on the airplane also died. The NTSB found the probable causes were limitations of the see-and-avoid concept in congested airspace, inadequate ATC procedures, and a personal phone call by the Teterboro controller who was responsible for ensuring separation. The controller did not notice the airplane entering the VFR corridor.
