Summary
Whirlwind HAS.7 XL837, coded 392/C of 845 Naval Air Squadron, ditched in the Mediterranean Sea off Malta from a 10 ft hover while operating from HMS Centaur. A loud bang was followed by the engine overspeeding. The three crew were rescued by the submarine HMS Tally Ho, with which the helicopter had been exercising.
