Sikorsky MH-60S crash near Arabian Sea, International Waters

Summary

A US Navy MH-60S Seahawk helicopter assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Five (HSC-5) aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) conducted an emergency water landing in the Arabian Sea within the US Fifth Fleet area of operations. Three of the four crew members were rescued and returned to the carrier. Commander Gabriel Edwards, commanding officer of HSC-5, was declared missing. After more than 102 hours of continuous search and rescue efforts covering over 14,000 square miles involving ships and aircraft from two carrier strike groups, P-8A Poseidon aircraft and US Air Force assets, the Navy suspended the search. The loss was not believed to be due to hostile action.
