Sikorsky UH-60 crash near Páramo de Las Delicias, near Inzá, Cauca, Colombia
The helicopter came down on the páramo de Las Delicias, near the La Herradura lagoon, shortly after lifting off for the return flight to Popayán. It was flying supply and personnel transport for the Ejército Nacional, operated by the Tercera División through Brigada 29 and the Batallón de Infantería Liviana de Operaciones 7, and carried the Báltico 2 platoon. Nineteen were on board, four crew and fifteen soldiers, and all of them survived. Four professional soldiers suffered the worst injuries, including multiple fractures; others had contusions and some were unhurt, so no reliable injury total exists and none is recorded here. The leading hypothesis is a loss of lift, which may have prompted the pilot, a lieutenant colonel, to attempt a forced landing; a mechanical failure causing a loss of stability is also being examined. Neither is confirmed. Two details differ from the aggregator record: it gives the operator as the Fuerza Aeroespacial Colombiana, but this was an Army aircraft and the air force sent only two ambulance aircraft; and it gives fifteen occupants, which is the troop count rather than the total. Although Cauca is contested territory, no source alleges hostile fire or a shoot down. Coordinates are approximate to Inzá.
