Summary
En route near Holsted the engine and rotor RPM dropped below 70 per cent. The pilot recovered and continued. On approach to Kolding/Vamdrup the engine and rotor RPM rose to 120 per cent; the pilot did not attempt to recover from the overspeed and performed an autorotation. Ground contact was hard and the helicopter crashed in a field, severing the tailboom. The pilot was unhurt. The investigation could not identify the cause of either the low or the high RPM condition, and noted that emergency procedures and a safety alert addressing engine RPM runaway were available at the time.
