Agusta-Bell AB 206 crash near Weddell Sea, Antarctica

The AB 206 was moving fuel drums from a ship to a depot six miles away on an ice shelf. On the last flight of the day, in deteriorating visibility and poor contrast over the ice, it flew into the snow-covered surface. It cartwheeled twice; the main rotor head and blades detached and severed the tail section and part of the engine. Detailed examination of the combustion heater later showed evidence of hot gas leakage where heated air is ducted into the cabin, raising the possibility of low-grade carbon monoxide poisoning as a contributory factor, though this was not confirmed.
