Eurocopter EC225 crash near Brovary, Kyiv, Ukraine
A State Emergency Service Eurocopter EC225 Super Puma crashed near a kindergarten in Brovary, outside Kyiv, killing all 10 on board and 4 people on the ground including one child. 25 people were injured including 11 children. The helicopter was transporting Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky, his deputy Yevhen Yenin, and State Secretary Yurii Lubkovych to Kharkiv. The investigation found the helicopter had no clearance for the flight, was diverted from emergency standby duty, the crew had no certificates for bad weather flying, and was not given meteorological data along the route. In fog the crew flew at extremely low altitude below building height. The captain saw an obstacle, climbed too steeply, lost orientation and the helicopter crashed. Five State Emergency Service officials were charged with safety violations.
