Eurocopter AS 350B3 Ecureuil crash near Dye 1 radio station, Qaqatoqaq Mountain, Qeqqata, Greenland

The Ecureuil was slinging a fuel tank on a 30-metre long line to a telesite station on a mountaintop when, while positioning for the delivery point, it entered orographic cloud and the pilot lost external visual references. Attempting to recover, he became spatially disorientated and partially lost control. Tracking downhill to the south, the suspended fuel tank began striking rocky terrain. After the cargo hook was released, the helicopter's skids struck rock roughly 100 metres further downhill and the long line snagged. It came to rest on its right side with the nose facing the telesite. The pilot was uninjured.
