Agusta-Bell 206B JetRanger II crash near Ikerasassuaq (Prins Christian Sund), Kujalleq, Greenland

unknown2011-05-31
Summary

The JetRanger was making a six-minute repositioning flight from the coastal radio station at Ikerasassuaq to the harbour quay below it for refuelling. On final approach, as the pilot raised the collective and flared for landing at around 30 to 40 feet above the water, the helicopter lost lift and sank. He turned it away from the dock and it struck the water a few metres clear of the quay and shoreline. The emergency floats inflated and the helicopter remained afloat. None of the three on board were injured. Classified by the Danish HCLJ as a serious incident.
