Incident report
Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV crash near Skovfjord, 13km SE of Narsaq, Kujalleq, Greenland
minor2024-02-28
Summary
The LongRanger was positioning from Narsarsuaq to Qaqortoq when an anti-rotation tab liberated from a thrust plate at engine bearing number 8, causing total engine power loss and an autorotation over water. The pilot activated the emergency float system before ditching, but the left aft float failed to inflate — likely because water had frozen in its supply line — and the helicopter rolled onto its left side on impact. The pilot was uninjured and was airlifted to hospital in Qaqortoq by an Air Greenland SAR helicopter as a precaution. Investigated by the Danish HCLJ as report 2024-146.
