Eurocopter EC135 P2 crash near Avalon (Santa Catalina Island), California, United States

A REACH Air Medical Services Eurocopter EC135 P2 medical transport helicopter crashed into the Pacific Ocean shortly after departing Catalina Island's Pebbly Beach heliport on Wednesday night, killing a pilot, a nurse, and a patient while two survivors were rescued from the water. The aircraft reached approximately 175 feet above sea level before rapidly descending; the wreckage was subsequently located 200 feet below the ocean surface.
