Eurocopter AS350B3e crash near Kericho, Kericho County, Kenya
The Kenya Forest Service helicopter came down while taking off from the golf club grounds at Kericho and was substantially damaged, the tail section severed from the fuselage. The number aboard is disputed. In a statement on 12 October the Kenya Forest Service, the operator, said four were aboard, one pilot and three passengers, and that all four were safe and accounted for. Most Kenyan coverage on the day said five, and the aggregator record still does; KBC described five passengers in addition to the pilot, which would make six. Four is recorded here because it is the only first-party figure and the most recent, but the disagreement is unresolved. On injuries, KBC and the aggregator both state that the pilot suffered serious injuries, and Capital FM reported that the environment principal secretary, Festus Ng'eno, was unhurt while the pilot was injured. One serious injury is recorded. One outlet reported that the pilot had taken off in poor weather, but that is unattributed and no official cause has been published. The Kenya Forest Service said the site had been secured and that an investigation would establish the circumstances.
