Eurocopter BK117 D-2 crash near Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire, United Kingdom
The air ambulance was responding to an emergency call and landed on a playing field at Scar Farm Holiday Park, Saundersfoot, where it struck football goalposts. Wales Air Ambulance said nobody was injured, no patient was on board and there was no danger to the crew or the public. The damage left the helicopter unable to fly. It sat in the field for four days before being recovered on Sunday 11 October, its main rotor blades removed and the airframe lifted by crane onto a transporter. The charity said an internal investigation was under way and that the relevant authorities had been notified. Reports that the call was a hoax are not confirmed: the claim comes from a caravan owner at the site relaying what he said a crew member told him, Wales Air Ambulance has not confirmed the call was false or malicious, and Dyfed-Powys Police had not commented. The helicopter was operated by Gama Aviation on behalf of Wales Air Ambulance.
