fatal2017-03-107 fatalities
Summary
A Sikorsky S-76C++ helicopter operated by Swan Aviation for the private use of Eczacibasi Holding departed Istanbul Ataturk Airport at 11:15 local time in heavy fog, carrying a Turkish businessman, four Russian guests, and two pilots to the company offices in Bozuyuk. Six minutes after takeoff, the helicopter struck the Endem TV Tower and crashed onto the D100 highway. All seven people on board were killed. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation stated that poor visibility and heavy fog were likely the main cause. Investigators also questioned why the pilots were flying near the tower, which was marked as a no-fly zone on charts and well known to experienced pilots.
