Incident report
Eurocopter BK117 D-2 crash near Fisko Island, Brando, Aland, Finland
minor2022-02-12
Summary
The air ambulance H145 landed on an ice covered driveway on Fisko island after a call to a person injured in a fall. Seconds after the pilot set the engines to idle the helicopter began to slide tail first, gathering speed, and after about 20 metres the main rotor struck a boat shed. The impact turned the helicopter towards the shed and the right side of the fuselage hit the wall. The main rotor blades were damaged. The nurse on board suffered minor injuries and the other two occupants were unhurt. The Safety Investigation Authority found that the crew, concentrating on a demanding confined area landing, had not registered how slippery the surface was, and recommended fitting slide stoppers to skids for winter operations.
