Incident report
Aerospatiale SA 365N Dauphin 2 crash near Atlantic Ocean, near Reykjavík, Capital Region, Iceland
serious2007-07-16
Summary
During a winching training exercise the Coast Guard Dauphin lost power from one engine while in the hover, possibly due to fuel control unit contamination, and ditched in the Atlantic off Reykjavik. The crew deployed the emergency floats successfully and evacuated four minutes after ditching. The forward right float was rubbing against the pitot tube, which was not in the modification state compatible with the floats, and its forward chamber deflated a few minutes later. The helicopter capsized roughly eighteen minutes after ditching. All three crew were unhurt.
