Bell 206L-3 crash near Porjus, Sweden

serious2019-06-04
Summary

A Fiskflyg AB Bell 206L-3 LongRanger III (SE-HVJ) was flying out sacks of firewood as sling load cargo to a resting place next to a mire near Porjus. After unloading the second cargo, the helicopter attempted to take off from beside a wooden footbridge. The left rear landing gear "bear paw" plate became trapped under a transverse plank of the footbridge. As the helicopter lifted, it quickly rolled left, the main rotor contacted the ground, and the helicopter overturned onto its left side. Both crew members experienced back and neck pain but no injuries. The SHK found the cause was the landing gear becoming trapped under the footbridge plank.
