Summary
The HH-52A crashed near the summit of Mount Erebus at about 10,500 feet while ferrying a passenger from McMurdo Station to Cape Bird on Ross Island. All four aboard — two crew and two passengers — survived and were rescued some twelve hours later. Selected avionics were recovered but the aircraft itself was never salvaged.
