Agusta-Bell 206B JetRanger III crash near Al Ain Training Area 6, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

The flight was a dual proficiency check after the new year break, followed by a briefing for the student's first solo. The instructor stood at the edge of the helipad, communicating by hand signals as there was no radio contact. The student was told to pick up to the hover briefly and settle again to judge lateral control with the changed centre of gravity, then to hover, transition and fly a circuit. As he picked up, the aircraft began to yaw right. The instructor signalled for left cyclic, but the student applied left pedal to arrest the yaw; the helicopter rolled rapidly right, the main rotor struck the ground and it came to rest on its right side. The student evacuated. The investigation cited inadequate briefing and oversight regarding centre of gravity distribution, the student's failure to recognise the developing dynamic rollover, the inadequacy of hand signals for corrective instruction, and incorrect application of the recovery technique.
