serious2024-01-07
Summary
The AW109 was repositioning from a private heliport in Ajman to a temporary site at Al Zorah to collect passengers before a flight to the Dubai Police Academy. The pilot, alone aboard, was cleared to remain below 500 feet. On final approach he inspected the landing area, focusing on the central H marking illuminated by two police cars. As the helicopter descended, downwash raised a sudden cloud of powder from the ground marking, leaving no visual reference. The helicopter rolled right, the main rotor blades struck the ground and it came to rest tilted to the right.
