Aerospatiale AS350B2 crash near Mount Kubin, Canada

A High Terrain Helicopters Aerospatiale AS350B2 (C-GYGK, manufactured 1986) was flying from Nelson Heliport to Nakusp Aerodrome in British Columbia when the pilot decided to reverse course due to weather conditions. He brought the helicopter into a hover and began a pedal turn. As he increased airspeed for forward flight, the low rotor horn sounded and the low rotor light illuminated. Unable to regain rotor speed, the pilot manoeuvred to land on the mountainside northwest of Mount Kubin. The aircraft rolled down the hill and came to rest with the engine still running. One occupant sustained minor injuries, the other serious injuries. Due to low cloud, a CH-149 Cormorant rescue helicopter was unable to reach the crash site. Nelson Search and Rescue reached the two by foot and transported them to lower elevation by toboggan. Both were taken to hospital. The aircraft was destroyed.
