Incident report
Sikorsky S-55B crash near Hvalfjörður, Capital Region, Iceland
fatal1975-01-177 fatalities
Summary
The S-55B was flying passengers from Reykjavik to Vegamot when it crashed at Hvalfjordur, killing all seven on board. The investigating committee concluded the probable cause was that the helicopter lacked power and the pilot lacked the experience to navigate the turbulent wind area at Hjordarnes, particularly given that the helicopter was overloaded and its centre of gravity was aft of the allowable limit.
