Summary
The USAF HH-3E was flying a rescue mission for four survivors of a Cessna 172 crash north of Reykjavik. Having flown one injured man to hospital, it returned with two doctors aboard. After taking off with the three remaining survivors and five rescue workers on board, it suffered a dual compressor stall caused by icing at low altitude and made a hard landing not far from the original crash site. All eleven aboard survived.
