Bell 212 crash near Mount Watt, Canada

Summary

A Coldstream Helicopters Bell 212 (C-GRGQ, manufactured 1978) departed Silver Tip Heli-Skiing Lodge on a local heli-skiing flight with one pilot and nine passengers. During approach to land on Mount Watt, the wind direction indicated by a landing stake flag was observed to change. The aircraft began a rapid uncommanded descent, landed hard, bounced forward and right, and struck terrain. The helicopter came to rest on its side. All 10 occupants egressed without injury. A post-crash fire destroyed the helicopter. The occupants were recovered by another Coldstream helicopter. The TSB classified the event as abnormal runway contact.
