Summary
The Sea King made a hard landing on the helicopter pad of the guided missile destroyer USS Preble during a routine passenger transfer, with two crew and ten passengers aboard. The rotor blades struck the tail pylon after a loss of yaw control on landing. One passenger and two sailors aboard the ship were injured. The badly damaged helicopter was offloaded at Bahrain the following day and struck off charge at the end of the month.
