Summary

The Coast Guard S-76A, used for search and rescue, departed its base at Reykjavik and flew to the Coast Guard vessel Odin in the Western Fjords for a training mission. It crashed at night shortly after taking off from the vessel's helideck, killing all four crew. The wreckage was located by the Odin's crane at a depth of ninety metres. The right-hand sliding door had separated, but it could not be determined whether this caused rotor blade damage.
