Summary
An AgustaWestland AW109S Grand helicopter crashed in a cornfield in Santa Maria Coronango, Puebla, 10 minutes after takeoff from a heliport in Puebla City. All five on board were killed: Puebla Governor Martha Erika Alonso (sworn in just 10 days earlier), her husband Senator Rafael Moreno Valle (former Puebla governor), a political aide, and two pilots. The investigation found mechanical failure due to maintenance irregularities. In December 2020, four employees of Rotor Flight Services, the maintenance company, were arrested and charged with negligent homicide and false statements regarding the aircraft's maintenance records and certifications.
