Bell 206L crash near Dog Lake, Canada

A Wisk-Air Limited Bell 206L LongRanger (C-FKAW, manufactured 1976) was conducting a deer survey flight from Thunder Bay International Airport to remote locations in the Dog Lake/Silver Falls region of Ontario. The pilot landed on a remote bush road and, after assessing the snow conditions, rolled the throttle to ground idle. With frictions applied, the front passenger and pilot exited the helicopter with the engine running. Seconds later, the snow beneath the rear skids gave way, causing the helicopter to rock backwards and the tail rotor to contact the snow. The pilot returned, shut down the engine, and confirmed no injuries. All personnel were evacuated by separate company helicopters. Maintenance found damage to the tail rotor, tail boom, and drive shaft.
