Bell 206B-3 JetRanger III crash near 10 miles south of Sardloq, near Narsarsuaq, Kujalleq, Greenland

fatal1992-04-132 fatalities
Summary

The JetRanger was flying a routine ice patrol between Narsarsuaq and Julianehab when it became overdue. It was later found to have crashed onto a small island roughly ten miles south of Sardloq. The flight had appeared to be proceeding normally with no indication of difficulty. Both the pilot and the ice observer were killed. Initial inspection of the recovered wreckage indicated a sudden and catastrophic loss of control in apparently normal flight, leading to separation of the main rotor head and blades, after which the helicopter entered a steep dive that continued to impact. The accident occurred in daylight and fine weather with no reported turbulence.
