Summary
An Inaer Italia AgustaWestland AW139 rescue helicopter crashed into Mount Cefalone at approximately 600m altitude near the Campo Felice ski resort, 120km east of Rome, while evacuating an injured skier with a broken leg. All six on board were killed: two Guardia di Finanza police officers, three medical personnel, and the injured skier. The helicopter was flying in thick fog and low cloud. The crash occurred in the same region devastated days earlier by an avalanche that buried the Hotel Rigopiano, killing 29 people. Two of the helicopter crew had been involved in the Rigopiano rescue operation.
