Eurocopter AS350B2 crash near Mokwo, Kenya

A Heliservices Ltd Eurocopter AS350B2 (5Y-HLI, manufactured 1999) impacted the ground during takeoff from Kaptarkok school, Mokwo at 8,500ft ASL. The skids were damaged. The investigation found the probable cause was the pilot's inadequate preparation including loading and assessment of expected performance at high altitude. The engine may have had slightly degraded performance due to internal defects and wear noted during strip.
