Bell 206L-4 crash near Mount Kenya, Kenya

A Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV (5Y-RKW, manufactured 1996) operated by Kenya Power and Lighting Company crashed into the Mount Kenya forest in Meru District at 13:00 following a loss of engine power. The helicopter was destroyed on impact with trees. No fire. Despite a major SAR operation launched the following day, it took 8 days to locate the pilot and wreckage. The pilot had serious injuries and was hospitalised for 16 days. The probable cause was loss of engine power due to fuel control unit malfunction.
