Summary
A National Police Service Air Wing AgustaWestland AW119 MkII (5Y-NPW, manufactured 2017) collided with trees in fog while attempting a precautionary landing near Cyompiou, Kaithe area, Meru. The helicopter had departed Wilson Airport for Badan Arero via Embu and Wajir but weather deteriorated below VFR minima en route to Isiolo. Two occupants suffered serious injuries and four minor injuries. The investigation found the pilot lacked situational awareness and continued into deteriorating weather causing spatial disorientation after inadvertent IMC entry.
