Summary
A Kenya Police Air Wing AgustaWestland AW139 (5Y-NPS, manufactured 2016) crashed inside the National Youth Service Engineering Institute in Mathare, Nairobi, after hovering at 5,700ft for approximately 2 minutes. The pilot significantly increased collective causing Nr to droop to 96% with a low rotor warning. Subsequent control inputs led to a spiraling descent at 4,000ft/min. The aircraft crashed with a yaw rate. Three occupants suffered serious injuries and one minor. Video of the spinning descent was widely shared on social media. An uncertified pilot was reportedly at the controls.
